About Christopher L. Hanson

Communication has never come easy to me. As a young person, I observed those around me as they developed their skills with ease - and felt only frustration as my shortcomings became ever more apparent. I learned only later in life that I suffered from several learning disabilities that went undiagnosed as a child. Because of these deficiencies, I spent my youth searching for alternative ways to express myself. My natural proclivity for all things visual along with my general introversion meant many sunny afternoons spent indoors devouring art, movies, shows, and games. I didn't know it at the time, but I was developing a visual vocabulary of my own - a vocabulary in art.

This interest in art grew from a childhood passion to both my career aspiration and core identity. Soon I sought higher education. I spent my formative years at the University of Hartford's School of Fine Art, where I learned not only how to draw and paint but also how to communicate with an audience, to tell stories through my work.

The final lesson I learned from my schooling was that a degree in art isn’t worth much in the real world. That fact couldn’t keep me out of the studio however; I was always creating what I could, exhibiting when I could. Eventually, I landed my first professional art gig at Nine Kingdoms Publications, an independent game company based out of Staten Island, NY. There, I served as the creative director on multiple game titles and expansions. My mandate: establish the unique visual identities of our games. This came with an additional challenge beyond just creating my own work - leading a team of other artists. Together we brought life to the worlds that our games would inhabit.

Today, I am happily married to my amazing wife Stephanie. We live and work out of our home in Long Island, NY, which we share with our boys (our two beautiful cats). I established CLH Studios to build upon and showcase my unique brand of communication. So, that’s my story. Now, I look forward to telling new stories. Possibly your stories - through art.
